Question 610171: I need as many details as Possible. Thank you.
The histogram below shows the distribution of 50 ages at death due to trauma (accidents and homicides) that were observed in a certain hospital during a week.
age frequency
10 3
20 18
30 13
40 6
50 5
60 3
70 1
80 0
90 1
1. What percentage of deaths were individuals younger than 35?
2. Is this histogram left-skewed, right-skewed, symmetric, or neither of these? Explain your
answer.
3. Calculate the mean of this frequency distribution.
4. In what age range must the median lie? Explain your answer.
5. Assume that the largest observation in this dataset is 90. Suppose this observation were
incorrectly recorded as 900 instead of 90. Will the mean increase, decrease, or remain
the same? Will the median increase, decrease or remain the same? Explain your
answers.

I need as many details as Possible.
Ans: (3+18+13)/50 = 34/50 = 68/100 = 68%
--------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Is this histogram left-skewed, right-skewed, symmetric, or neither of these? Explain your answer.
Ans: Right skewed. The higher level freqs. are to the left;
the histogram stretches out to the right.
------------------------------
3. Calculate the mean of this frequency distribution.
Ans: (10*3 + 20*18 + 30*13 + 40*6 + 50*5+....)/(50) = 32.2
----------------------------------------------------------------
4. In what age range must the median lie? Explain your answer.
Between age 30 and 39 because there are 21 who are in the 10 thru 20
categories and 16 in the 40 thru 90 categories. The middle age must
be in the 30 category.
----------------------------------------------------------------
5. Assume that the largest observation in this dataset is 90. Suppose this observation were
incorrectly recorded as 900 instead of 90.
Will the mean increase, decrease, or remain the same?
Ans: increase
---------------------
Will the median increase, decrease or remain the same? Explain your
answers.
Ans: Remain the same because the middle score will still be the
middle score.
