Question 593686: In the FAQ section of the Wisconsin Lottery website is the question, "If the overall odds of winning a prize on an instant ticket are 1 in 10, then how come when I bought 10 tickets I didn't win?"
How should I answer this question?
Side note: Even though the website uses the word 'odds' they are actually giving the probability.

Because the expected value of buying 10 (or 11) tickets is 1 win; it doesn't guarantee that you will win one ticket. This kind of probability is distributed using a binomial distribution, in which winning 0/11, 1/11, 2/11, etc. have their own probabilities.
