Question 587625: I am not sure if I have the correct category but I need help with Algebra II questions on physics.
The question reads:
A golf ball is hit with an initital velocity of 130 feet per second at an inclination of 45 degrees to the horizontal. in physics, it is established that the height h of the golf ball is given by the function:
h(x) = -32x^2/130^2 + x
Where X is the horizontal distance that the golf ball has traveled.
1.Find the height after it has traveled 100 feet.
2.Find the height after it has traveled 500 feet
The answer is 81.07 Ft but I can't get my math to work out correctly.
Is it possible to tell me what I am doing incorrectly?
1. I replaced 100 with all the x's
my equation looks like this:
h(100) = -32(100)^2 / 130^2 + 100
then:
100h = -32(10,000)/169,000 + 100
I get 98.106
I have not even tried the 2nd question yet because I can't figure out what I am doing wrong on the first question.
Thank you for your help!

Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
you are doing fine
h(100) = -32(100)^2 / 130^2 + 100
h(100) means the height of the ball when the ball has traveled 100 ft horizontal distance.
it is not h*(100)
h(100) = -18.93+100
h(100) = 81.07 ft.
Similarly you plug x=500 on the right side of the equation
