Question 581379: I'm not sure which approach is correct for a probability question:
The letters of the word "fantastic" are written on cards and placed in a bag. Two cards are selected (without replacement). What is the probability that "at" will be selected. It seems order matters so my first thought was to multiply probabilities of "a" [2/9) and "t" [2/8] giving me 1/18. Then I thought perhaps I should be counting total eligible letters [4/9] x [3/8] resulting in 1/6. Which is correct?

The letters of the word "fantastic" are written on cards and placed in a bag. Two cards are selected (without replacement).
What is the probability that "at" will be selected.
-----
P(at) = P(a)*P(t | a) = (2/9)*(2/8) = 1/18 ==================================================
