This is false since the correlation coefficient is positive and very close to 1. A positive correlation means that as x increases, y increases. Also a positive correlation means that as x decreases, y decreases.


The true statement would be "A correlation coefficient of 0.96 would mean that the values of x increase as the values of y increase"
