Question 566859: you want to determine the typical dietary habits of students at a college. which would be the best sample to represent a typical student. *students in a single dormitory *students majoring in public health *students who participate in intercollegiate sports *students enrolled in a required English course. Why? explain why each of the other choices would not make a good sample for this study.
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
*students in a single dormitory -- this is a bad choice because this single dormitory is not large enough to represent the entire population of students.

*students majoring in public health -- this is also a bad choice because it's very likely that those majoring in public health are very conscious of their own health, which means that they're likely to be healthy; however, the student population at large may not be healthy.

*students who participate in intercollegiate sports -- same reasoning as the second choice: student athletes are more likely to be much healthier overall than the average student, so this group is not representative

*students enrolled in a required English course -- this may be the most representative of the choices here (since English is a very common required course and everyone has to take it), but there are many students who have passed and completed English and have moved on to other things (such as math or science). So this group ignores those majors completely.
