Question 542356: in how many ways can you answer the questions on an exam that consist of 10 multiple choice, each with 4 answer choices, followed by 8 true/false questions?
Answer by neatmath(302)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

You can use the "multiplication principle of counting" on this one:

For each question, there is some "possible" number of answers.

On the multiple choice questions, there are 4 possible answers.

On the true/false questions, there are 2 possible answers.

Now we can just multiply out all the possibilities for the 18 questions:

This can be simplified as:

There are 268,435,456 different ways in which one could answer these test questions!

We could write out all the different possibilities, but it would take us years to do so. Scary, huh?

I hope this helps!
