What is the probability that a freshman selected at random from this group is enrolled in:
(a) An economics and/or a mathematics course?
(b) Exactly one of these two courses?
(c) Neither an economics course nor a mathematics course?

332 is the number enrolled in Econ, but includes both those enrolled in ONLY Econ or both Econ and Math. So 332 minus 144 is the number enrolled only in Econ. Likewise 223 minus 144 is the number enrolled only in Math.

So 188 Econ only, 79 Math only, 144 both, and the rest 500 - (188 + 79 + 144) are enrolled in none.
