|3x+2|=7 and |3x+2|=-7
First:
|3x+2|=7
We can now remove the absolute value lines...
3x+2=7 and we can solve for x.
Subtract 2 from both sides...
3x = 5
Divide by 3...
x = 5/3
Second:
|3x+2|=-7
remove the absolute value lines...
3x+2=-7
Subtract 2 from both sides...
3x = -9
Divide by 3...
x = -3
So, our solution set is...
{-3, 5/3}
