Question 45331: Compute the variance and standard deviation and describe what this figure means for this data set
16, 17, 23, 23, 26, 27
This is what I came up with for the standard deviation.
Add all amounts together and divide by 6 = 22

I then took each amount and subtracted 22 from each and squared the answers.
36+25+1+1+16+25 = 94

I then took those answers, added them together = 94. I took the amount of numbers (6) and subtracted 1 to give me 5.
From this I divided 94 by 5 and got the answer 4.33.
After this I have no idea what to do.
I think the figure would be roughly symmetrical.
Please help. Thank you to whoever answers. YOu're an angel.

Answer by Nate(3500)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Sum/n = variance
104/5 = 20.8
standard deviation = sqrt(variance) = 4.5607017
The data is normally distributed (not skewed).
