Question 430672: You are a member of the university committee that is choosing the new electronic ma- chines for grading bubble sheets at a school. Manufacturers delivered their early prototypes to your committee and you are going to test them. You’ve received tips that the machines count individual answer sheets well, but the software fails if given certain sequences of answer sheets. You do not know what these sequences might be.
Each answer sheet has eight questions with two possible answers (a or b). For each question, each answer sheet may be marked a, b, both, or neither. How many distinct 40-answer sheet sequences are there? (Hint: This will be a total of 320 questions, because there are 8 questions per sheet.)
