Question 418617: I have the answer to this problem, just need help in understanding what the answer means.
Question:
It is not possible to have P(A)=0.48,P(B)=0.24 and P(A and B)=0.29. Explain.
The Answer:
The chance of B occurring is 0.24.Therefore the chance of A and B occurring must be less than 0.24.

If A and B are independent events, then P(A and B) must be less than .24. This is because P(A and B) = P(A)P(B) = .24P(B) <= .24.
