Question 392036: Please! help my son this home work,I don't understand word either
two cards are drawn from a standard deck of cards .Find probability
P(both either black or an ace)
P(both jack or both face cards)
1. 28/52=14/26=7/13
2.4/52*12/52=48/2704=24/1352=12/676=6/338=3/169
7/13*3/169=21/2197

two cards are drawn from a standard deck of cards .Find probability
P(both either black or an ace)
If you mean both black, or one card is an ace and other is not relevant:
Both black:
= (13/52)*(12/51) = 1/17
One ace:
= (4/52) + (4/51) = 412/2652 = 103/663
Since it's either, add them
1/17 + 103/663 = 2414/11271
Some big numbers, but it's just adding fractions.
------------------
P(both jack or both face cards)
Jacks:
(4/52)*(3/51) = 1/221
Face cards (J, Q or K):
(12/52)*(11/51) = 11/221
Since it's either,
= 1/221 + 11/221 = 12/221

Two cards are drawn from a standard deck of cards .Find probability
P(both either black or an ace) = P(2 black) + P(2 ace) - P(2 black and 2 ace)
-------------------------
P(2 black) = 26C2/52C2
P(2 aces) = 4C2/52C2
P(2black and 2 ace) 2C2/52C2
----
So, P(both black or both aces) = {26C2+4C2-2C2]/52C2
---
= [325 + 6 -1]/1326
--
= 330/1326
= 0.2489
==============
P(both jack or both face cards)
= [4C2 + 12C2 - 4C2]/1326
---
= [6+66-6]/1326
---
= 66/1326
---
= 0.0498
