In a distribution of scores with a mean of 35 and a standard deviation of 4, which event is more likely: that a randomly selected score will be between 29 and 31 or a randomly selected score will be between 40 and 42?
--------
Figure the number of standard deviations the intervals
are from the mean.
The 29 to 31 interval is from (6/4)-(4/4) or 3/2 to 1 standard
deviations to the left. P(29< x <31) = 0.0918
-----
the 40 to 42 interval is from (5/4) to (7/4) standard deviations
to the right. P(40< x <42) = 0.0656
