Pet Shop A pet shop is selling a calico cat, a Siamese cat, a Persian cat, and a Himalayan cat. The Chens are going to select two cats to bring home as pets.
a) Determine the number of points in the sample space.
b) Construct a tree diagram and list the sample space. Determine the probability that they select
c) the Persian cat.
d) the Persian cat and the calico cat.
e) cats other than the Persian cat.

A.The first selection may be any one of the four cats. After the first cat is selected there are only three cats remaining. So 4*3, or 12, sample points in the sample space.

C. Determine the probability that they select the Persian cat.
P (persian cat selected) = 6/12=1/2

D. Determine the probability that they select the Persian cat and the calico cat. Two outcomes meets the criteria: CP and PC
P (persian and calico cat) = 2/12 = 1/6

E. Determine the probability cats other than the Persian cat. Six outcomes meets the criteria: CS, CH, SC, SH, HC, and HS.
P (cats other than Persian cat) = 6/12 = 1/2
