Question 382335: Please help me with these two homework problems. I have worked out both of them and keep getting them incorrect.
The distribution of actual weight of 8 oz. cheese is normal mean with 8.1 oz. and standard deviation of 0.1 oz.
1. If a sample of five cheeses is selected, what is the probability their weight is less than 8 oz?
2. There is only a 5% chance that the five cheeses average age will be below?
For #1 I answered 0.9873. I did 8.1-8/(.1/sqrt5))
For #2 I answered 8.08 ounces.

The distribution of actual weight of 8 oz. cheese is normal mean with 8.1 oz. and standard deviation of 0.1 oz.
1. If a sample of five cheeses is selected, what is the probability their weight is less than 8 oz?
2. There is only a 5% chance that the five cheeses average age will be below?

For #1 t(8) = (8-8.1)/(.1/sqrt5)) = -2.2361
P(x/bar < 8) = P(t<-2.2361 when df=4) = 0.0445
--------------------------------------------
For #2 I answered 8.08 ounces.
The t-value with a left tail of 5% when df=4 is -2.1318

The corresponding average weight is -2.1318*0.1 + 8.1 = 7.89 oz.
