Question 349188: Suppose that 65% of all adults in a certain community are obese and that 59% suffer from diabetes. If 77% of the adults in this community are obese or suffer from diabetes (or both), what is the probability that a randomly chosen adult in this community is both obese and suffering from diabetes?

I think I have to add
P(obese)+P(diabetes)-P(obese intersection with diabetes)
=.65+.59-.77
but i am not sure..

You are correct.

P(obese AND diabetes) = P(obese)+P(diabetes)-P(obese OR diabetes)
P(obese AND diabetes) = 0.65+0.59-0.77
P(obese AND diabetes) = 0.47

So the probability that an adult is both obese and diabetic is 0.47 (47% chance)
