A dart hits a dartboard that is in the shape of a square with sides of 4 m. There are four congruent circles inside the square that are all touching. The shaded region is everything but the 4 circles. What is the probability that the dart will land in a circle?

Draw the pictures and you will see the diameter of each of the
circles is 2 m; so each radius is 1m.
So the area of each circle is pi sq meters.
So the area of the four circles is 4pi sq meters.

The area of the square is 16 sq meters.
