Question 262382: Suppose a couple has six grandchildren. Determine the probability that all six grandchildren are girls. Explain in writing how you found your solution.
I think I'm supposed to multiply 6 x 5 x 4 x 3 x 2 which = 720 possible outcomes for if the genders of their 6 grandchildren. Having all girls is 1 possibility out of 720. -> 1/720 = .14%.
That just cannot be right. There cannot be that many options and the odds of having all girls cannot be less than 1%. I think I'm doing something wrong.
Please help! Thanks!!!
Answer by drk(1908) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
If we have 6 kids and want all 6 girls, that means 0 boys.
Of 6 kids choose 6 girls
P(girl) = 1/2
we have
(6c6)(1/2)^6 = 0.015625
