Question 23901: Here is my question please help...
A research study on the calorie intake of 2300 women found that the mean calorie intake was 1650 calories per day. The data were normally distributed with a standard deviation of 175 calories. How many women in the study at between 1300 and 2000 calories a day?
Thats all i have no idea how to find the anwser so some help would be nice. Thanks
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Draw the normal curve putting 1650 at the mean; sigma=175 and
label the horizontal axis as "x".
You want to find Prob(1300
Either use a TI-83 calculator to find this directly
or convert the 1300 and the 2000 to "z-scores", as follows:
z(1300)=[1300=1650]/175= -2
z(2000)=[2000-1650]/175= +2
Now your problem becomes Prob(-1
Use your z-chart to find Prob(0
I get an answer of 2*0.47725=0.9545~ 95.5%
So the Probability you are looking for is approx. 95.5%
