Step 1. 40% means 0.40.

Step 2. Multiply 0.40 and 8 to get 0.40*8=3.2.

Step 3. ANSWER. 3.2 is 40% of 8.

Obviously, the number that is being sought is going to be LARGER than 8, because 8 represents 40% of that number.

Putting the information in mathematical terms, and using N as the number, we get:

8 = .4 * N

8 = .4N ------ .4N = 8

N =

Therefore, is 40% of 8.
