Question 202590: A license plate must have one letter (not I or O) followed by four digits followed by a defferent letter from the first letter (not I or O). How many possible license plates are there? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
There are 26 letters in the alphabet. Leaving out I and O, that leaves 24 letters from which to choose. Once you have chosen the first letter, there are 10,000 ways to chose the 4 digits if you allow 0000. Then once you have chosen the first letter and the 4 digits, there are 23 letters to choose from since you cannot repeat the first letter, so in total:
You can do your own arithmetic. The easy way is to multiply 24 times 23 and then tack four zeros on the end of your answer.
