1 - (1/k^2) = 0.8889
1/k^2 = 0.1111111
k^2 = 9
k = 3
----------------
You want the range of values within 3 standard deviations of the mean.
42-3*(standard dev.) <= cost <= 42+3(standard deviation)
42-9 <= cost <= 42+9
$33 <= cost <= $51
