We'll do the "average" in arithmetic,
For the 1st week, Marty spent:
5 lbs *$0.98/lb= $4.90
A week later, Marty spent:
7 lbs* $0.74/lb= $5.18
So for the average, ($4.9+$5.18)/2
= $5.04/lb. Thus is the average Marty paid per pound for the apples
Thank you,
Jojo
