5). sum is almost 3.
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You will be anble to see the answer to these questions if
you will sketch the sample space as a 6 by 6 square with
1,2,3...6labels on the top and 1,2,3...6 labels on the side.
--------------
The 1st row entries will be 11,12,13,14,15,16
The 2nd row entries will be 21,22,23,24,25,26
etc.
The 6th row entries will be 61,62,63,64,65,66
You should end up with 36 entries; they are all
the possible results from rolling two dice.
----------------------
If two dices are rolled, find the probability that
1). two faces shows same number: you should see 11,22,33,44,55,66
P(same number) = 6/36 = 1/6
--------------------------
2). the sum of the two faces are greater than 1.
This is true of all the pairs: P(sum >1) = 36/36 = 1
---------------------------
3). sum is atleast 9
36,45,46,54,55,56,61,62,63,64,65,66
P(sum>=6) = 12/36 = 1/3
--------------------
4). sum is odd.
I'll let you do that
-----------------------
5). sum is almost 3.
"almost" is not a well-defined term in mathematics.
No answer to this one.
The answer is subjective---that means different people would have
different interpretations of the word "almost".
