Question 131156: H0: = 100
H1: =/ 100
Given the following hypothesis:
A random sample of six resulted in the following values: 118, 105, 112, 119, 105, and 111. Using the .05 significance level, can we conclude the mean is different from 100?
a. State the decision rule.
b. Compute the value of the test statistic.
c. What is your decision regarding the null hypothesis?

Given the following hypothesis:
A random sample of six resulted in the following values: 118, 105, 112, 119, 105, and 111. Using the .05 significance level, can we conclude the mean is different from 100?
a. State the decision rule.
H0: = 100
H1: =/ 100
-----------------------
Critical value for 2-tail test with alpha=5% and df=5: t = +-2.571
x-bar = 111.6667 ; s = 6.0553
----------------------
b. Compute the value of the test statistic.
t(111.666) = (111.666-100)/[6.0553/[sqrt(5)]] = 4.30796
----------------------
c. What is your decision regarding the null hypothesis?
Since the test statistic is greater than the critical value, Reject Ho.
The mean is different than 100.
