Find the probability that they select General Electric for all three appliances.

The strictly mathematical answer:

There are 4 ways to choose a refrigerator, 4 ways to choose a stove, and 3 ways to choose a dishwasher, so there are 4 X 4 X 3 = 48 possible combinations, only one of which is all three being General Electric. Therefore the probability is .

Now the practical answer:

Unless Mrs. Davis is REALLY weird, she is going to insist that all of her kitchen appliances match. The only brand that is represented in all three sets of selections is General Electric. I would say, from a real life point of view, the probability of selecting all three General Electric appliances is nearly certainty.
