You are right to ask this question about the (a) part. We don't know what
"couple" means, a married or dating couple, a couple of females, or a couple of
males.
But we can answer the (b) part.
The drama club buys tickets for 12 seats in a row for a local production, and
then sends the tickets randomly to the 12 people who ordered seats. Of these 12
people, 7 are female and 5 are male. Determine the probability that:
b) The women will be seated together and the men will be seated together.
2 basic ways, the 7 women on the left and the 5 men on the right, or vice-versa.
That's 2*7!*5! ways
There are 12! different ways all 12 people can be arranged.
So the probability is
