The distribution of weights for newborn babies is approximately normally distributed with a mean of 7.5 pounds and a standard deviation of 0.8 pounds.
What percent of newborn babies weigh more than 8.3 pounds?

8.3 pounds is one standard deviation up from the mean 7.5 pounds.


Using the Empirical rule, the ANSWER is  = 0.5 - 0.34 = 0.16 = 16%.
