Question 1189198: In the finals series of a baseball championship, the first team to win 4 games wins the championship. Let x represent the number of games played in the finals series.
a. State the possible values of x
b. What values of x correspond to the series lasting
i) Exactly 5 games
ii) At least 6 games
I don't understand the concept behind the question and how to solve it.
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
X=4,5,6,7 games.
X=5 games.
X=6, 7 games for at least 6 games.
That is how I see the question. They aren't asking for number of ways (two ways to have a 4 game series, for example). Without probability, there is no way to say likelihood.
Exactly 5 games has 5 ways to happen, but they aren't asking that, either, since x represents the total number of games and not wins or losses by either team.
