Question 1177043: 38.) A test is made of H0: μ = 5 versus H1: μ < 5. A sample of size n = 87 is drawn, and = 4.5. The population standard deviation is σ = 25.
a. Compute the value of the test statistic z.
b. Is H0 rejected at the α = 0.05 level?

Hi
The population standard deviation is σ = 25, μ = 5
Sample 87:  x̄ = 4.5
α = 0.05 level - one tailed: z = -1.645
Ho:  p = 5
Ha:  p < 5

z = (4.5-5)sqrt(87)/25 = -.1865
 p = .426 > .05   Fail to Reject Ho.
