There are   =  = 84 ways to select 3 girls from 9 girls.


There are   =  = 28 ways to select 2 boys from 8  boys.


There are  84*28 ways to combine the team of 5 consisting of 3 girls and 2 boys from 9 girls and 8 boys.


There are   =  = 6188 different ways to select 5 persons from 17 boys and girls.


So the probability under the problem's question is  P =  = 0.38 = 38%.    ANSWER
