Question 1172476: If P(A) = 0.35 and P(B)=0.66 and P(A ∩B)= 0.231. Verify whether
i)Events A and B are mutually exclusive
ii)Events A and B are independent

.

(i) Events A and B are mutually exclusive if and only if P(A ∩ B) = 0.

Since in our case P(A ∩ B) = 0.231 is not zero, the events A and B are NOT mutually exclusive.

{ii) Check if P(A)*P(B) = P(A ∩ B).

This condition is a necessary and sufficient condition for events A and B to be independent.

You can easily make this simple check on your own.
