Question 1163000: Given an approximately normal distribution what percentage of all values are within 3 standard deviation from the mean ?

Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
critical z = plus or minus 3.
area to the left of -3 is equal to .0013499672
area to the right of 3 is the same as the area to the left of -3.
1 - 2 * .0013499672 = .9973000656.
that's the proportion of the area under the normal distribution curve that's between z = -3 and z = 3.
multiply that by 100 to get 99.73000656%
this is what it looks like when using the calculator found at https://homepage.divms.uiowa.edu/~mbognar/applets/normal.html
