Question 1160791: In an experiment, a ball is drawn from an urn containing 14 orange balls and 12 purple balls. If the ball is orange, two coins are tossed. Otherwise, three coins are tossed.
1) How many elements of the sample space will have a orange ball?
2) How many elements of the sample space are there altogether?

Answer by Edwin McCravy(20054)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Sample space = {OHH, OHT, OTH, OTT, PHHH, PHHT, PHTH, PHTT, PTHH, PTHT, PHTH, PHTT}
1) How many elements of the sample space will have a orange ball?
I count 4
2) How many elements of the sample space are there altogether?
I count 8

[Note: There would be a lot more possibilities if you consider, say,
the three coins were a nickel, a dime and a quarter, and you considered
the case of PHHT where the nickel and dime showed heads and the quarter showed
tails,
different from
the case of PHHT where the quarter and nickel showed heads and the dime showed
tails. This way considers them the same. You should ask your teacher which
is supposed to be meant].
