1. an ace OR a spade?
5. a diamond AND a five?

AND means you've got to have both present at the same time
If you've got "diamond AND 5" you ca't have a diamond in one
place and then go look for a 5 somewhere else.
Where is the diamond AND 5 present? The 5 of diamonds is the only place
diamond AND 5 = 1

OR means I can have what I need somewhere and then go look
somewhere else for the other thing, because I can use either one
"ACE OR SPADE" means any ACE will do and any SPADE will do
There are 4 aces:
A-Diamonds
A-spades
A-hearts
A-clubs
There are 13 SPADES
A-spades
K-spades
Q-spades
J-spades
10-spades
9-spades
8-spades
7-spades
6-spades
5-spades
4-spades
3-spades
2-spades
I would have 17 in all, but notice A-spades is counted twice.
So ACE OR SPADE = 16
