Question 1156018: A particular area of Florida near the Gulf of Mexico is periodically hit by hurricanes. The chance of that happening in any given year is 0.13.
What is the chance that the county in Florida would be hit by two hurricanes in the same year?

The "wanted" answer is 0.13.*0.13 = 0.0169.

But, formally, it would be true, ONLY if the problem states that the hurricanes are independent and each may occur
with the probability 0.13 any time (any day or month) in a year.

But the problem DOES NOT state it, so it is slightly defective, in my view.

I think that NO ONE textbook (textbooks are carefully edited and peer reviewed) would place such a problem.

So, its origin is UNCLEAR to me, and I do not think that it is from good source.

Would I be an author or an editor, I'd DEFINITELY do not place it in my textbook.
