Question 1141081: A box contains 8 red marbles, 6 green marbles, and 9 yellow marbles. 4 marbles are selected without replacement. What is the probability that the color of each marble selected, in this order, is yellow, yellow, green, red?
Answer by greenestamps(13203) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
23 total marbles to start; 8 red, 6 green, 9 yellow.
P(yellow first) = 9/23.
Remaining marbles are 8 red, 6 green, 8 yellow.
P(yellow next) = 8/22.
Remaining marbles are 8 red, 6 green, 7 yellow.
P(green next) = 6/21.
Remaining marbles are 8 red, 5 green, 7 yellow.
P(red next) = 8/20.
The probability of that sequence is the product of the probabilities for each marble drawn.
