Question 1139996: I read the chapter but dont understand how to solve this problem
You wish to test the following claim (Ha) at a significance level of α=0.10.
Ho:μ=75.4
Ha:μ≠75.4
You believe the population is normally distributed and you know the standard deviation is σ=8.4. You obtain a sample mean of M=74.8 for a sample of size n=46.
What is the p-value for this sample? (Report answer accurate to four decimal places.)
p-value =

Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
z=(x-mean)/sd/sqrt(n)
=-0.6*sqrt(46)/8.4, inverting the denominator when dividing puts sqrt(n) in numerator
=-0.48
p-value for z=-0.48 is 0.3140 one way or 0.6280 two way (ANSWER)
Note: to use four decimal accuracy requires the unusual step of using z to four decimal places. Do on calculator and round only at end. The p-value for all practical purposes is large and 0.62, 0.63 or even 0.64 might be reported and be sufficient.
