Question 1131617: 2.14 A batch of 200 specimen of fiber reinforced composite material when tested for strength and density yielded the following data
High density Low density
High strength 151 11
Low strength 18 20
According to the information stated above
a. Determine the probabilities that both its strength and density are low
b. Determine the probabilities that its strength is high and density is low
c. Consider the even E1 that a specimen has high strength and the event E2 that a specimen has high density are the events E1 and E2 are mutually exchusive
is anyone know this question in which book

Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
HD LD Total
HS 151 11 162
LS 18 20 38
Total 169 31 200
Both low has probability 20/200 or 0.10, the lower right in the table.
HS LD is 11/200 or 0.055 probability
HS has probability 0.81
HD has probability 0.845
If a specimen has high strength, it certainly can have high density. They aren't mutually exclusive. Nor are they independent, since the joint probability is not the same as the actual probability.
