Question 1122181: Suppose X is a Poisson random variable. If we have been told that the value of the parameter λ for this Poisson distribution is 8.7, what is the variance of X? (Give your answer to 1 decimal place.)
Thank you very much

everything i've read about poisson so far says that the variance is equal to the mean.

unless there's something else implied in this question, i would say the variance was 8.7 if the mean was 8.7.

here's a reference on the poisson distribution.
