Of the persons interviewed, 200 liked ground coffee, 230 liked instant coffee, 50 liked both, and 40 did not like coffee at all. What was the total amount of money the company had to pay?

It is adding all those numbers, 200+230+50+40 to get $520

The correct answer and the correct solution is THIS : 

    the total amount of money the company had to pay = the total number of interviewed people = 200 + 230 - 50 + 40 = 420 dollars.

Why ? - Because those 50 were counted twice : once among those 200 people and the second time among 230 people.
