Question 1121725: Heights of men on a baseball team have a bell-shaped distribution with a mean of 176 cm and a standard deviation of 8 cm. Using the empirical rule, what is the approximate percentage of the men between the following values?
a. 152 cm and 200 cm
b. 168 cm and 184 cm

Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
subtracting 176 from both heights, then dividing by 8 cm sd, one obtains within+/- 3 sd s, so 99.7% are within the height limits
The second one is +/- 1 sd, and that would be 68%.
