Question 1114932: Assume that a simple random sample has been selected from a normally distributed population. Find the test statistic, P-value, critical value(s), and state the final conclusion.
Claim: The mean time between uses of a TV remote control by males during commercials equals 5.00 sec.
Sample data: n = 81, x = 5.25 sec, s = 2.80 sec. The significance level is α = 0.01.
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The test statistic is a t (0.995,df=80) with a critical value of |t|>2.639
t=(xbar-mean)/s/sqrt(n)
=(5.25-5)/(2.80/sqrt(81))
=0.25*9/2.80=2.25/2.80=0.80
this is not greater than the critical value, so there is insufficient evidence to reject Ho at the 0.01 level or to say the value of 5 seconds is not correct. p-value is 0.42.
