multiply decimal notation by 100 and you get percent notation.

divide percent notation by 100 and you get decimal notation.

percent means per 100 with cent meaning 100 as in 100 centimeters equal 1 meter.

.17 in percent notation means 17 / 100 which means 17 per cent.

17% of something means 17/100 * something which means .17 * something.

just remember:

decimal notation is percent notation divided by 100.

percent notation is decimal notation multiplied by 100.

lots of formulas require decimal notation, so take the percent notati9on and divide it by 100 and you get the decimal notation.

example:

100 increased by 10% equals what?

this means 100 + 10% of 100 which means 100 + .10 * 100 which means 1.10 * 100 which is equal to 110.

here's a reference from the web.
