Question 1090157: Mark averaged 60 miles per hour during the 30-mile trip to college. Because of heavy traffic he was able to average only 40 miles per hour during the return trip. What was Mark's average speed for the round trip?
Answer by htmentor(1343) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The trip to college took 30 mi/(60 mi/h) = 0.5 h
The return trip took 30 mi/(40 mi/h) = 0.75 h
The total time is 1.25 h and the total distance is 60 mi.
Therefore, the avg. round trip speed is 60/1.25 = 48 mi/h
