Question 1081434: Two medical researchers each perform the same experiment using two different samples from the same population. One study results in a p-value of 0.06, and the other study results in a p-value of 0.09. Which of the following statements is correct regarding the evidence against the null hypothesis?
The p-value of 0.06 gives stronger evidence against the null hypothesis because it is smaller.
The p-value of 0.09 gives stronger evidence against the null hypothesis because it is larger.
Its impossible to tell which p-value provides stronger evidence against the null hypothesis, because they are both greater than 0.05.

This is a bit philosophical. The p-value is a statement of the likelihood of getting a result of this type or more extreme if Ho is true. It is used more as a decision maker than as a strength of evidence against. I favor it is impossible to tell, because both are greater than 0.05. This approach is consistent with confidence intervals, where values at one extreme are considered just as likely as ones in the middle.
