Question 1075628: Could someone explain how I should answer these?
For questions 1-3, write the null and alternative hypothesis.
1. A fitness center is running a discounted membership fee. Did the discount increase the membership sales? Write your hypotheses mathematically.

2. A medical researcher gave 100 patients a new drug to see if it reduces their blood pressure? Did the new drug reduce the patients' blood pressure? Write your hypothesis mathematically.

3.Some students took a conflict resolution class? Did this class help to reduce the number of conflicts that the students were involved in? Write your hypothesis mathematically.

Could someone also show me how to work this out?

find the critical value.
4. The average weight of a newborn at a particular hospital is 96 ounces with a standard deviation of 3 ounces. Find the critical value for a newborn who is 2 standard deviations below the average weight.

Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1.Ho: sales decreased or remained the same. x<=
Ha: sales increased. x>
2. Ho: The blood pressure remained the same or increased.
Ha: the blood pressure decreased.
3. Ho: the number of conflicts stayed the same or increased.
Ha: the number of conflicts decreased.
In all cases, both hypotheses together should cover all possibilities without overlap. The null hypothesis typically shows no change or no change or worse. The alternative hypothesis is everything else.
==========================
mean -2 sd is the critical value, which is 96-3(2)=90 oz the critical value.
