Question 1072437: Hello! Please help me with this:
In a sample of n = 6 scores, the smallest score is X = 3, the largest score is X = 10, and the mean is M = 6. If the largest score is changed from X = 10 to X = 22, then what is the value of the new mean?
Thank you.
Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
 n = 6
smallest score is 3
largest score is 10
mean is 6
if the mean is 6 and there are 6 scores, then the total of all the scores has to be equal to 6 * 6 = 36
if you change the largest score from 10 to 22, then the total score is increased by 12 to become 48.
n remains at 6.
the mean is now 48 / 6 = 8
not sure what the smallest score has to do with it.
it does not appear to be a necessary factor in solving this problem.
