Question 1072113: a textbook store sold a combined total of 464 sociology and math textbooks in a week. The number of math textbooks sold was 80 less than the number of sociology textbooks sold. How many textbooks of each type were sold?
Answer by Mini-(17) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Total = sold.soc.textbooks + sold.math.textbooks = 464.
sold.math.textbooks = sold.soc.textbooks - 80.
sold.soc.textbooks + (sold.soc.textbooks - 80) = 464.
2*sold.soc.textbooks = 464 + 80.
sold.soc.textbooks = 544 / 2 = 272.
sold.math.textbooks = 272 - 80 = 192.
